Angry Canadian/Hippy Texan

So, I was in Santa Rosa and get a call from princess_allura saying "there's been a ton of gun shots on 580!" She's freaked and we text each other as she tells me what's happening, complaining about the lack of news on TV, the helicopters, so on.

She tells me that she's following Twitter to find out what's going on, so I do too, and it's fascinating to see the mix of people asking questions, small bits of information being retweeted promptly. I was kind of amused in the way #Oakland was split between messages about the Justin Bieber concert and people talking about the gunshots and amount of cops on 580, and later, people coming home from SF saying "WTF?" and complaining about the traffic. Video was up on YouTube before we saw anything on the TV.

Local radio station KCBS started publishing on it's site and it was on the radio, and I was telling Stef, that now, it wouldn't be on the TV yet, because they need to get a truck there, the truck would have the same traffic problems, then they need to get some sourced information, and prepare that for the air, all of which takes time, but to get an idea of what was happening, twitter was actually usefully.

In the end, I'm just glad it was an angry right-wing nut job, and it reinforced my fantasy of becoming a left-wing gun nut to protect myself from these crazies.
